BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION DIVISION

JILL FREIFELD
CBCC-KA, CPDT-KA, ABCDT*

Jill's love for dogs was obvious since she was a child. From her first job as a kennel attendant, she's enjoyed working hands-on with dogs. She became a trainer after adopting a highly reactive puppy named Bart. Bart didn't respond well to traditional training techniques, which forced Jill to look for alternatives. She discovered positive reinforcement training and never looked back.

Jill's professional highlights include starting a successful dog walking company, serving as a lead instructor and the Director of Service Dog Training for world-renowned author and dog trainer Pat Miller, opening and managing a force-free dog daycare, and running the America’s Vetdogs service dog training prison puppy program at the Maryland Correctional Institution in Hagerstown, MD.

Although Jill enjoys teaching classes, her passion is behavior modification with an emphasis on reactivity and aggressive behavior. Although these cases are difficult, she loves helping owners overcome their dogs' behavior challenges.

Jill demonstrates her commitment to modern, science-based training theories and techniques by becoming one of only a few Certified Behavior Consultant Canine-Knowledge Assessed as well as a Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed. She maintains memberships in the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), the Mid-Atlantic Association of Professional, Positive Pet Trainers (MAAPPPT), and the Pet Professional Guild (PPG).

She constantly works to increase her knowledge of various training-related issues including learning theory, behavior, cognition, and body language. Jill regularly attends workshops and seminars to stay abreast of the most up-to-date dog training methodologies and theories. Her continuing education has included work with dog training luminaries Sue Sternberg, Suzanne Clothier, Shade Whitesel, Dr. Ian Dunbar, Linda Tellington-Jones, Ken McCort, Dr. Susan Friedman, Ken Ramirez, and Pat Miller.

STACIE NYHUIS
LVT, CPDT-KA, PMCT-1, FFCP*

unnamed-3_edited.jpg

Stacie is R+K9's Behavior Evaluator. She conducts virtual assessments and provides behavior management advice to give clients the immediate help they need. Stacie's unique combination of veterinary, behavior, and training experience enable her to evaluate behavior and offer practical advice to clients.

Stacie has always loved animals and grew up alongside shepherds, labs, and poodles. The turning point came for her after college when she brought her rabbit in to see a local vet. He could tell that she was good with animals and asked if she had any interest in working with them. She jumped at the opportunity and started as a kennel aid and worked her way up to an assistant. On her 25th birthday, she decided she would go back to school to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician. She graduated and was officially licensed in the summer of 2012. Years later, after working as a nurse in small animal practices she made the transition to working in veterinary behavior. She has been working alongside Dr. Leslie Sinn (a Board Certified Veterinary Behaviorist) as a nurse at Behavior Solutions for Pets since 2016. As she has advanced in her behavioral knowledge, she attained several certifications including becoming a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, a Pat Miller Certified Trainer, and a Fear Free

Certified Professional. She is currently working towards a specialty in behavior as a technician (VTS-B).

Her first degree was a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and she spent 14 years teaching dance to children and adults at a local dance studio. Throughout that time, she honed her teaching skills and still uses them today when working with clients and their pets. Her two careers melded together to form the perfect little niche for her in animal behavior.

In her downtime, Stacie enjoys time at home with her husband, son, and terrier mix. She is artistically driven and loves to use any opportunity to create something beautiful. She paints, draws, crochets, and sews and is always working on a new project. Her life did not follow the path she expected but she couldn't be more grateful for everything that has led here.
