R+K9's Cranky K9 program is led by Jill Freifeld, one of only a handful of Certified Behavior Consultant Canine-Knowledge Assessed in the region. She specializes in behavior modification, with dog reactivity and aggression cases making up 90%-95% of her private training work.

The program is divided into three classes. Cranky K9 1 ($450) is seven weeks, and Cranky K9 2 & 3 classes ($300 each) are five weeks each. Each series builds on the one before it, creating a class track to follow. The further you progress along the track, the more skills you'll learn and the stronger your dog's responses become.

Cranky K9 1, 2, & 3 Classes have a maximum enrollment of three dogs. Our three dog limit ensures you get the individual attention and coaching that you and your dog deserve. We won't rush you through a class plan so we can check off a list of cues. It's more important to help you understand why and how to train behaviors.

Cranky K9 program students have free access to the reactive dog owners support group, The Walking Dread.

Unless your instructor tells you otherwise, all classes meet at the R+K9 training facility at 2637 Papermill Road (behind Anderson Roofing) in Winchester, VA.

Choke chain, prong, and shock collars are not permitted in our training facility.

*Our program class pricing reflects the increased staff and level of expertise necessary to maintain a safe and controlled class environment.

Our reactive dog classes are different.

Cranky K9 1

Saturdays with Jill Freifeld, CBCC-KA, CPDT-KA (Start dates TBD)

Prerequisite: Current or previous private training client or pre-class consultation

Reactivity is a serious issue. Your instructor and class coaches understand the gravity of reactive dog ownership, both as trainers and as reactive dog owners. Cranky K9 1 includes discussions, training management cues, and working with your dog in the presence of other dogs in a structured, carefully managed environment.

Cranky K9 1 class introduces the foundation knowledge and skills necessary to manage and modify your dog's reactivity. You'll learn how reactivity affects your dog's brain and body and what you can do about it, how to read your dog's body language, strategies to deal with dicey situations, the significance of situational awareness and most importantly, you'll understand why your dog reacts the way she does and learn how to change it.

Our class is ideal for reactive dog owners who aren't able to do one-on-one behavior modification training as well as for those who've done some private behavior modification work and would like more practice in a safe and controlled environment with other dogs.

Prospective Cranky K9 students must schedule a pre-class consultation or have the instructor's approval before enrolling. This class is not appropriate for people-reactive dogs. If your dog is reactive to people, please contact us to discuss private behavior modification training.

Cranky K9 2

Saturdays with Jill Freifeld, CBCC-KA, CPDT-KA (Start dates TBD)
